PEA is a fatty acid molecule produced naturally by our cells. In the 1950s, PEA was first identified in chicken egg yolk.

Yes. PEA (Palmitoylethanolamide) is a fatty acid amide naturally produced in the body.

Some research has looked at PEA and sleep. In an 8-week, double-blind, placebo-controlled study of 103 adults using a different PEA formulation, PEA shortened the time it took to fall asleep and improved cognition on waking (Sleep Science and Practice, 2021). There was no difference from placebo in overall sleep quality or sleep duration, and more research is needed. PEA is a food supplement, not a medicine, and results vary from person to person.

PEA is found in lipid extracts of foods and plants such as egg yolk, peanuts, soybeans and lecithin.

Some of our customers tell us they notice more vivid dreams after starting PEA. Vivid dreams have not been established as an effect of PEA in clinical research, so we can't say for certain why this happens. One possibility is a change in sleep patterns affecting how much of your dreams you remember. If you use a wearable, you could track your sleep stages before and after starting PEA to see for yourself. If your dreams are unpleasant or your sleep is disturbed, stop taking PEA and speak to a healthcare professional, or contact our support team.

Everyone responds differently, and PEA tends to build gradually rather than all at once. In a meta-analysis of 9 clinical trials in people with chronic pain, micron-size PEA taken for 60 days reduced pain intensity more than 30 days did, with around a 35% reduction in the first month and a further 35% in the second (Schweiger et al., Nutrients, 2024). An earlier pooled analysis found pain scores fell steadily over time, by around 1 point every 2 weeks (Paladini et al., Pain Physician, 2016). In the sleep study above, effects were measured after 8 weeks. Some people notice changes sooner and others need longer, so we suggest taking PEA consistently, 2 capsules in the evening, for at least 8 weeks before deciding whether it is right for you. These studies used different PEA products and doses and were not carried out on our product.
