What does Chromium Picolinate do?

Our new formula now contains Chromium Picolinate. A possible function of Chromium is to enhance insulin action, which might contribute to carbohydrate, lipid, and protein metabolism. In turn, this could support healthy blood sugar levels which may help to reduce cravings. Chromium Picolinate also plays a role in supporting metabolism.

What does Silymarin (Milk Thistle) do?

We added Silymarin (Milk Thistle) to Releaf because Berberine has low rates of absorption when taken orally. This is due to both being subject to P-Glycoprotein (it puts Berberine back into the intestines) and increasing the activity of P-Glycoprotein.So the trick to increasing and getting much better absorption is to take with a P-Glycoprotein inhibitor such as Silymarin which has synergistic effect on Berberine making it more effective. Silymarin also reduces the associated risk of gastrointestinal discomfort that can be associated when higher doses of Berberine are administered.

Why should I take Releaf with food?

We usually recommend our Releaf product to be taken with a meal or shortly after as it can sometimes cause gastrointestinal disturbances when taken on an empty stomach. Furthermore, Releaf helps with reducing blood sugar. It is more effective when taken with a meal especially one that includes carbohydrates that might cause blood sugar levels to rise.

Is Releaf an alternative to Metformin?

Berberine and Metformin both support healthy blood sugar. They are also similar in their mechanisms of action and cellular level effects. Dr Sinclair in his book Lifespan advocates the use of Metformin, which has been shown to increase the lifespan of mammals and numerous medical studies show Berberine as effective as Metformin.
